Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
KJV
Thankfulness on the part of the Christian is commanded by God. There is no other way to interpret this verse than to say God commands thankfulness. But are we a thankful people? People, Christians included, have become so self centered today that they are seldom thankful for anything. Several years ago I was talking with a lady at Thanksgiving time and she stated that she had absolutely nothing to be thankful for, that it was a terrible Thanksgiving and she didn’t think shoe could make it through the day. The reason for her deep despair? He dog had died. Yet as we talked we were sitting in a beautiful home her husband and her owned. She had a son and daughter in good health. Her husband had a good job. They had a fine car. Yet she had nothing to be thankful for. I want to take some time over the next few days and begin to count the things we have to be thankful for. If God commands we be thankful, we must have something to be thankful for. Begin to count your blessings today.
