2 Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.
3 For the Lord shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

Do you ever feel like you are walking is the waste places, in the wilderness or in the desert without water? That is how Israel is pictured in this passage. Indeed there are times that this life feels just like that and it seems there is nothing that we can do about it. I often think of Israel and the promises God made to the nation at times like that. Now the church is not Israel and the Christian not the Jew, but God has made some very special promises to us as well. In the latter part of the book of Isaiah we find that God will not break His promises to Israel. Even though they had walked away from the Lord, God would not divorce them, God would not forsake them, God would keep His promises to Israel. So will the Lord Jesus Christ keep His promises to the Christian. He will dwell in us, comfort us, walk with us, never leave nor forsake us, He will comfort our waste places just as He promised to do for Israel. Christian we need to put ourselves in a position to receive those promises, to receive His blessings. When Israel turns to Christ and walks with Him they will receive the promised blessings. We need then to make sure we are walking with Him, that we have not turned away even in the trials of life.
