2 Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;
3 For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.
4 I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:

One of the best cures for a troubled spirit is a reading of the Psalms. David was a man much like we are today, full of troubles. He had great responsibilities in leading the people in the ways of the Lord, defending the nation, taking care of a multitude of problems in a day to day basis, taking care of family and so on. So we find in David a man who had to constantly lean upon the Lord because his soul was full of troubles, some he thought would carry him to his death. (Verse 3) What was David to do? He would turn to the Lord, morning noon and night, in the night seasons David prayed. When we are troubled as He was it is soothing to spirit and soul to read the Psalms, meditate upon them and pray. Many a time in my life I have begun in Psalm 1 with a notebook and began to read and number the tears of David and the prayers of David. Soon I am counting the joys of David in the Lord as well. The next time you are troubled try taking a walk through the Psalms with a man after God’s own heart.
