Ps 51:8-12
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

The end of a life of brokenness before God is not a life of dread and sorrow as the world may think, rather it is a life of joy, peace, and rest in the Lord. We hear joy and gladness when we are close to our savior, we have a right spirit within us, we have life as He wants us to have it. The main reason so many professing Christians have such troubled live in this world is that we never walk in brokenness and we never walk in the real joy of our salvation. Understand I am not saying that to be broken before God leads us to a place of no trouble in this world, but it will lead to the peace and joy of the Lord that is so often lacking.
