September 1st, 2015 by Pastor SolleyJohn 21:1-4 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
I want to focus this morning on the fact that the disciples who went fishing, led by Peter, did not know Jesus was standing on the shore. This is the resurrected Christ and some think the change in Him after the resurrection was the reason they did not know it was Jesus. But remember these men had seen Him before at least on two occasions and perhaps more. Why didn’t they know Him? Many times in our Christian walk as we turn to self and away from the Lord we do not know of His presence, do not know of His watching and caring eyes upon us, do not recognize the Lord. This does not have to be gross sin in our lives or a major turning away from the Lord, it can be little things. Too much TV can hinder our view of Christ. Too much interest in the things of the world like sports can hobbies can hinder our view of Christ. These things can come between us and the Lord and make it hard for us to see Him, to know of His presence in our lives. How will you start your day today? Will it be in the Bible and in prayer, allowing Christ to speak to you and speaking to Him? Or will it be a day filled with other things that leaves us wondering where the Lord is in our lives?
