10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. Most are familiar with this portion of Scripture. In order to remove Daniel form his post in government his enemies tricked the king into signing into law a decree that made it a capital offense for any person to pray to any god except the king for 30 days. Daniel refused to suspend his prayer life and as a result was thrown into a den of lions. You know the rest of the account.
Take notice in our verse that as soon as Daniel knew the law was signed he entered into his house and prayed and gave thanks as he did aforetime.
On Thursday our nation will stop and give special thanks to God for the blessings of the past year. This should be a special holiday for the Christian. Here is my question for you today; when you give thanks on Thursday will you be doing what you have done aforetime? Will you be giving thanks just as you did last Thursday and the Thursday before that? Will you be giving thanks as you do everyday to the God of heaven who sent His Son into this world to shed His blood for you? Will you be giving thanks for the mercy, grace and blessings of God as you do everyday? Or do you need a government order to give thanks?
