Prov 1:8-10 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

A proverb is a wise saying, but the book of Proverbs is much more than that. These wise sayings, the one we find in the Bible, are the inspired Word of God. We need remember that ALL Scripture is given by inspiration and that the book of Proverbs is God’s Word. Notice that these wise sayings begin with a command, “My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:” The wise sayings of a father and mother can be an ornament of grace to a son or daughter and they are not to be forsaken. But that is true only when dad and mom are Christians, have a heart for the Lord, are committed to the Lord and His Word, and pass that commitment and love for the Lord along to their children. Is that true of you today as a parent? What are you passing along to your children? I know a woman who when her daughter turned 21 took her to a bar for a drink. What type of instruction was she passing alone? I mention this only because that woman would tell you if you asked her that she is saved and she loves Jesus. I can’t tell her heart so only God knows if she is saved, but she certainly does not love Jesus or obey Him. That who you are passing along to your children, the instruction you are giving to them, if followed, where will it lead them?
