Prov 19:26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

Another proverb that deals with wasting is found in our text this morning. How is it that a son would waste his father, chase away his mother? It has to do with the instruction they have been receiving ion the home. There comes a time when every child deems themselves smarter than their parents. Dad is old fashioned, mom doesn’t understand are common phrases heard in the schools and on the playgrounds when children are growing up. We know this to be true because we said them ourselves. Yet when we look back we see the wisdom of godly parents, we can see that they were right in their thinking and we were wrong in ours. Then we see the next generation following the same path we walked down in our children. We need to be sure we don’t make the same mistake in spiritually as e see more and more people forsaking the old paths, the ways of our fathers. We see new Bible perversions adopted, the world’s music welcomed into the church, new methods, new modes, all being used to attack new people. We need to understand we are wasting the old tried and sure ways of God and that we are headed for ruin. How much might we have been saved from in our youth if we just had followed the path of dad and mom, if we had just yielded to their direction and taken their advice? We are better of when that wisdom, those ways are not wasted. The same spiritually.
