Ex 32:1-3 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.
3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.

Aaron is presented here with an opportunity, an opportunity to stand up and speak up for the Lord. The people grew restless waiting for Moses and so decided they needed a god they could see, an idol of their own making. We will never know what Aaron could have done, if he could have turned the people back to God or not, because he never tries. This is a man who heard the voice of God and felt the power of God in his life, this is a man who stood before Pharaoh, this is a man who have a voice. What might he have said? For one thing Aaron could have pointed out that the people were not to be waiting for Moses, they were to be waiting on God. That was a problem for them, they looked to a man when they should have been looking to the Lord. Years later they would do the same thing when they demanded a king, someone they could look at and follow. That was the first thing Aaron could have pointed out to them, not to trust in Moses but in the Lord. Would it have made a difference? We will never know because Aaron fell silent. One thing we need to do today is point people in need to the Lord.
