April 20th, 2015 by Pastor SolleyActs 10:13-14 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
Hoe many times in our lives have we said “Not so Lord” as Peter did here in Acts 10? Peter was being moved by God to take the gospel to the Gentiles and his first response was “Not so Lord”. How many times have we responded in like manner to God? When I have received news of ones so very close to me having cancer it may not have been in those words, but the thought was there, “Not so Lord”. Many other times in my life as I have received bad news, heartbreaking news I know that has been the firs thought in my mind, “Not so Lord”. Peter did not yet fully understand the love of Jesus and the scope of the cross, that Jesus died for all and that all, Jew and Gentile alike, could be saved by Him. But as Peter moved in obedience to the vision and voice of God he then understood more fully what Jesus did on that cross, that salvation was for all. We need to do what Peter did at such times of doubt in our lives, move forward with the Lord, trust Him, depend upon Him, and obey Him. As Christians our lives are to be totally surrendered to Christ and when they are the times we say “Not so Lord” will be fewer and fewer. I don’t recall Peter ever saying this again and while we may experience times of doubt and fear we need to turn all over to Christ.
