Matt 27:62-66 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

I want to wish all a happy Easter, a happy resurrection day. When I post on Monday we will have celebrated and remembered what Jesus did for us on the cross and the victory over sin, death, and the grave His resurrection secured. What a blessed truth that Jesus lives today! We see in our text this morning that the Pharisees did all they could to keep Him in the grave, they set a watch, they made the tomb secure, or so they thought. It reminds of what so many do in trying to gain heaven today, doing all they can in their own way, in their works and good intentions, in their beliefs to get to heaven. They do everything except what the Bible tells them to do that is. People do not want to deal with sin, want nothing to do with repentance, and outside of acknowledging the cross one time each year, nothing to do with Jesus Christ. They make things as sure as they can. But all is in vain just as those guards the Pharisees set at the tomb were in vain. The power of God, the work of Christ, the sacrifice, shed blood, and resurrection was not going to be averted no matter how hard man tried. Neither can our appointment with Jesus Christ be avoided as one day all will stand before Him and give account of what they did with Jesus in their life. I pray you will be able to say as I will, that you acknowledged Jesus Christ as the savior, confessed your sin to Him, repented and asked His forgiveness and salvation. That is God’s sure way of salvation, anything less is man made and is as vain as the watch the Pharisees set that day.
