Heb 9:13-14 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Ash Wednesday, which is today, marks the beginning of Lent, a season of repentance according to some of the main line churches. Let me say that Lent is not found in the Bible, it is a man made practice. But let me also point out that our salvation in Christ depends not on us doing anything to prepare ourselves for His sacrifice on Calvary. We do need to repent of sin in order to be saved, but that repentance requires no period of cleansing, no period of denial, only to go back to a life of sin and self after just six weeks. Repentance that turns one to Jesus Christ seeking salvation is a life changing event, not a period of time in which we think we are making ourselves worthy of His love and sacrifice. God does require repentance for salvation, but that repentance is a life changing thing that lasts, not one that is picked up and put off at our own convenience.
