January 15th, 2015 by Pastor SolleyPs 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
This morning I want to look at the last three verses of this Psalm. In the first three verses we find the way of blessings, the way of happiness, in the last three the opposite is revealed, the way of the ungodly. In verse 4 we find that the ungodly, those apart from Christ, have nothing in common with the redeemed. While God’s people are planted by living waters, are tended to and stable, the lost are not so. The lost are like the chaff, driven by the wind. Chaff is the dry, protective casings of seeds that grow such as wheat or oats. This chaff is of no use when the grain is harvested and is broken off as the grain is processed and then blown away with the wind, never to be thought of again. So it is with the lost, of no real value in this world or in the next, driven about with the wind. They have no standing with God and are not able to stand against the winds of adversity in this world. (Verse 5) The Bible tells us the end of these ones in verse 6, they shall perish eternally. The next time we feel like complaining about where God has placed us, how He takes care of us, we need to think of the chaff and how it is blown about in this world with no hope for the next. Take some delight in the Lord this morning Christian, we are not like the chaff.
