2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
Yesterday we look at a young Christian man who acted with discretion before god and how he and those around him were blessed because of that. Today we Consider the opposite. It could be said that Solomon had a better beginning than Joseph, and that God placed him in a position to be blessed. Part of that because of the request of Solomon when he became king. Remember that Solomon requested wisdom from God to govern and lead the people and that God granted that. But soon Solomon became to make some foolish decisions. (1 Kings 3:1-3 And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. 2 Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the Lord, until those days. 3 And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.) Solomon loved God but he was not acting with discretion and that eventually took him far from God. These actions then took away the blessings of God, not only upon Solomon, but they robbed his children as well. Remember what happened with Rehoboam Solomon’s son? The kingdom was divided, Israel went into idol worship full tilt, and eventually into captivity. What might have been different had Solomon continued to act with discretion we will never know. What we do know is that God wants His children to walk in wisdom, to act with discretion.
