2 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,
3 And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.
Acts 7:51-54 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:
53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
Acts 7 records the message that took Stephen to his death. Note in verse 1 that it was the Jewish council that asked Stephen to speak, the high priest that wanted to hear. All goes well throughout this message until Stephen begins to speak about Christ, that is when the high priest, the council was moved to anger, hate and murder. Not much has changed today in the preaching of the gospel, in taking a stand for the Word of God. As long as one stays away from Christ and the gospel there is little danger of offending anyone. But as soon as one stands for the truth of the Word, as soon as one proclaims the message of the gospel, the true gospel people are offended. The gospel involves turning from sin, involves repentance and judgment, not just love and joy, which is what all people want to hear. But remember why Jesus came and died on that cross, to deliver man from sin, to change lives and turn people from darkness to light. Christian, people need to hear the gospel today, the whole message for many stand in danger of an eternity in hell. Jesus is love, does love all and died for all, but people need to see in us a changed life and need to hear from us a message that includes love, repentance and turning to Jesus Christ.
