Ps 66:10-13 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
11 Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
13 I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,
As we saw yesterday the Christian life is to be a joyful life. One of the things that hinder that joy is our tendency to focus on the trials and troubles of life and not on the good things that God has done for us. There will be times as we see in our reading this morning that we will be in affliction and we go at seems through fire and water. There are trials and troubles in this life and the Christian is not shielded from all of them. But they will never outweigh the blessings of God and should not be our focal point. I know an individual, a Christian, who has gone through years and years it seems without many hardships or trials. The last few years they have faced some of the trials of life and every time I talk to them they have their eyes fixed on those trials. Some they have had victory over and yet all they want to talk about is the trial that has passed. It is robbing them of their joy in the Lord. When we face such times of trial in our life we need to again look at the good things God has done for us, turn our attention to the good things of God and not the present circumstances of life. We need to look then ahead at what is being prepared for us, life our eyes above this life, above this world. Some will say we then have our eyes in the clouds, but what better place to have them?
