4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Jesus was very concerned with children. The phrase “Little children” is found 20 times in the Bible, the first in Numbers and the last in 1 John. Of those 20 times 6 are connected directly to Jesus in the gospels, Jesus was concerned with children, with little children. We live in a society today that has little concern with children and then one wonders why the youth of today have al the problems that they do. We will start our VBS at Cherry Corner Bible Church one week from today and we expect to have 30 to 40 children with us ranging from ages 2 up to 18. We have classes for both teen and pre-school. Those are good numbers for a country church most will say, and they are, but 15 years ago our numbers were in the 75 – 85 or 90 range. Thos young people have grown up now and we can’t get them back to VBS, but does that mean there are less young people today than 15 years ago? Many of those same young people now have families of their own, children of their own, so where are they? Parents today have little concern for their children it seems, they will give them anything, get them involved in anything, except spiritual things, for God there is no time. Today our little children are being offended in that they are not being brought to Jesus as they once were. Look at the verses above to see what Jesus thinks of that.
