Zech 4:1-7 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep,
2 And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
4 So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
5 Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

In our passage for today we find a “Great mountain” before God’s servant Zerubbabel, a great task that was to be carried out. There are mountains in the lives of all of God’s children, some greater than others, but we all have mountains in our lives. They may consist of trials, of persecutions, of any type of issues that must deal with, but we all have mountains in our lives. How do we get over them, how do we get over the top of those mountains? The Bible says that the mountain before us can become a plain. (Verse 7) What was true of that man can be true of us, so how do we see this in our lives. This morning we look at just the first part of verse 6. The bible says “Not by might, nor by power”. In other words the mountain before him, and the mountain before us will not be removed by our might , nor by our power. When we speak of the spiritual mountains we face, of the trials of life, they will not be overcome by our might or power, we can not climb them alone. Most people try to solve their problems, first on their own, then with the help of others, friends or family, but we try to handle things on our own. The work had piled up on that good man and he was beginning to crumble under its weight, just as things begin to pile up on us at times. Try as we might we cannot remove the mountain, try as we might we cannot get over the top. This is a familiar feeling to most people. What then can we do.? Read the passage and we will continue tomorrow.
