April 28th, 2014 by Pastor SolleyPs 119:1-5 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord.
2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.
4 Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.
5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
There was a dear brother in our church, he is now with the Lord, who when I would visit in the hospital would always ask me to read the Psalm 119. He would ask me to read this Psalm because of his love for the Word of God. Of the 176 verses in this Psalm only a few do not make direct reference to the Word of God. In verse one it is the “Law of the Lord”, in verse two it is “His testimonies”, in verse three “His ways”, in verse four “They precepts, and in verse five “Thy statutes”. To love this Psalm is to love His Word, to love His Word is to love this Psalm. I want to look this coming week at this Psalm and see what the Word of God will do for those who love it and are given to it. First we see that it, the Word of God and obedience to His Word, will bring blessings from the Lord. “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord”. One thing I know God’s people need today, more than at any other time, are the blessings of God. Well, how do we get those blessings? By walking in the law of the Lord. Yesterday we had very good services at the Cherry Corner Bible Church, a good number in attendance, and the Spirit moved in the hearts of God’s people. Yet I looked around at some empty spots in our church, people who were not and are not sick, but not their Sunday to be there. Some it seems have set aside a certain number of Sundays to be in church each month and a certain number to miss. If they come two weeks in a row you can be sure they will miss a week, if they come one week, they may or may not come the next. They have it seems set a limit on the number of times they will be in the house of God. I wonder if they realize they have also set a limit on the blessings of God? We are commanded to be in the house of God when the doors are open. (Heb 10:25) To ignore that command it to cease to walk in the law of the Lord, thus limiting the blessings of God. If you want the blessings of God you need to obey the Word of God.
