Tim 1:2-5 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

There must have been many pretenders in Paul’s day, just as there are today. Paul was filled with joy when he thought of the “Unfeigned” faith that was in Timothy, his mother, and grandmother. How many there must have been who pretended to be something when they were not, just as there are today. People who said they loved the Lord, yet would not live for Christ. People who said they had a burden for others, yet they cared only for self. People who said they wanted to see the work of the Lord going forward while all the time hindering the work. There were many pretenders Paul had to put up with and there are many pretenders today in our churches. What to do? The call is for the Christian, the true Christian, to be what we say we are, to live as if we do love Jesus, to serve as if we do have a burden, to walk in the light, to love one another, to pray, to be what the name Christian says we are. There are too many today who pretend or play at church and those same ones wonder why the church is in a weakened state, why pastors get frustrated, and why many simply quit. Don’t be a pretender, be a Timothy today.
