Zech 9:9-12 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. 10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth. 11 As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water. 12 Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;

There is a very strange phrase found in the last verse of the reading this morning, “Prisoners of hope”. How can one be a prisoner of hope? In verse nine we have the promise of the first coming of Jesus Christ and how He could be identified by Israel. We know then that the nation rejected Jesus, that they turned Him over to Rome and that Jesus was crucified. Remember that Jesus gave Himself a sacrifice for sin on the cross, no one took the life of Jesus, He laid it down Himself. One day Jesus Christ is coming again and in that day He will rule and reign from His throne in Israel. Many things have taken place and will take place before that happens, yet that is the hope of the redeemed is it not, our blessed hope. For those who place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we become a prisoner of hope. Our hope is not in man, not in the world, our hope is in Christ. Even at the time of His first coming there were those who believed, those who received Jesus Christ not as the Messiah alone but as the savior of their soul. Those ones at that time became a prisoner of hope. What or who holds your hope today? I pray it is not in self, not in man, not in the world, not even in religion. I pray your hope is in the Lord, your hope is in Jesus Christ. Are you a prisoner of hope?
