Daily Devotions

Rom 6:6-11 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

It is hard to win a fight or a race if one does not know they are in it. So it is with the spiritual battle that we are in day by day, in order to win it we must know we are in it. To that end the Christian needs to consider the old man that is within us, that man of sin that resides within. Even though we are saved by the blood of Christ we keep that sin nature until we leave this world, it does abide within, the old man is still with us. Consider that day by day, that there is within us that which is drawn to the world, drawn to sin, drawn away from God, we have the old man inside. Yes the new man, the new creation, the new creature that we are in Christy has the ability through Christ and the Holy Spirit to overcome the old man, but we will not do that unless we first know we are in a fight. Why is it that we often stumble and trip as Christians? The old man can win if we forget he is there. Consider the old man and fight against him. Then the Bible tells us to count him, count the old man. (Rom 6:11) And count him as dead. A dead person has no control over the living and the old man is to have no control over the Christian, count him as dead. I have a funeral service to conduct tomorrow in Franklin PA and that service is not for the dead, that service is for the living. I know the one who will be remembered, his body will be there, but that service is for the living, the dead can not rule over it. The same with our old man, when we count the old man as dead we can then live for Christ.
