Rom 6:3-7 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

What a blessed truth to know that the “Old man” is crucified with Christ. The old man here is in reference to the sin nature that we are all born with, the sin nature that has condemned everyone to hell. That sin nature is crucified with Christ when a person is born again, when a person is saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. However many who claim to know Christ and claim this Scripture, as I do, make a serious mistake in living their Christian life, they forget about the old man. That sin nature, although crucified with Christ, is still within us and will remain within us until we go to be with the Lord. My fried we are free from sin, but we still have to deal with sin. We don’t have to live ion sin as a Christian, but we must resist sin, fight against sin. Notice the word “Might” and the word “Should” in verse six. We can and should live apart from sin, we can and should live above the world, we can and should live unto Christ, but not all will. Many who profess Christ tend to forget about that old sin nature within and when we forget about that old man he then begins to rule in our lives. Christian rejoice in the truth that the old man is crucified, but live as well in the truth that we must do battle with him every day. More tomorrow on the old man.
