Ps 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

I went to the doctor’s office yesterday to get results from tests I had done and it occurred to me how much care and testing people give to their physical body, to their physical life. Now I am all for that, we should take care of ourselves and with the advances made in the medical field today we need to do that. Things can be detected early and we can save ourselves from a lot of pain and trouble down the line and that is always good. But it also occurred to me how few Christians are concerned about their spiritual life, about the things they allow that will hinder and hurt them spiritually. But we do have a great physician who can detect things, can detect anything that is evil, anything that will harm or hinder us spiritually and all we need do is ask Him to look within. Our text today gives us the only place in the Bible where a child of God asks God to search him within, to see what is there that need taken out, to see what is there that needs forgiven, to see what is there that is hurting him spiritually. David is not the only child of God to do that in the Bible, but this is the only place it is recorded. Perhaps the reason being that it shows how few Christians are willing to do the same today, to take care of the things that are hurting them spiritually. Christian, if we take care of ourselves physically, shouldn’t we as well look to the spiritual? The spiritual is much more important is it not?
