January 13th, 2014 by Pastor SolleyGen 4:1-5 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord. 2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
Have you ever wondered how much respect God has for you and for the things that you do? Here we find that God respected the offering brought by Able, but God has no respect for Cain or the offering that he brought. God could not accept that which Cain brought because it was the work of his own hands for salvation. Read the rest of the chapter and you see in the attitude of Cain rebellion, Cain did not want to follow after God’s order in sacrifice. I wonder how much respect God will have for me at the end of this day, how much respect God will have for the things that do. I have now an opportunity to read His Word, to pray, to serve Him today in all that I do and there is much to do this day. Institute classes, visits to make, a prayer service to get ready for on Wednesday, nursing home ministry this evening, there is much to do this day. I wonder when the day ends how much respect God will have for what I do today. This is a question we all should ask everyday. Will I give God my all in all that I do, will I give Him my best effort, will I represent Jesus Christ in the way that I should. It is not so much results that God will look at, I am sure Cain brought a beautiful offering, but are we doing things the way God wants them done and are we giving our best effort, do we give our all? How much respect will God have for you and the things you do this day at the end of the day?
