Mark 7:1-6 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem. 2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault. 3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. 4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables. 5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands? 6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

This passage gives us a very accurate picture of Christianity in these last days, many who honor God with their lips but not with their life or actions. The Pharisees of the day honored God in their own minds with a heartless keeping of the Law of Moses and the traditions they had added. They did everything by the book, or so they thought. But at the same time they were making merchandise of the temple sacrifices, indulging in secret sins, and many more tings we could add. They honored God with their lips but not with their lives and that is most clearly seen in what they did with Jesus. But what of the Christian today, do we, do you honor God? People sit in the pew on Sunday, on Wednesday, they honor God, but do they really? How many hold grudges, are unforgiving, view the wrong TV shows, listen to the wrong music, have no control over thought life, and all the while say they honor God? If I am angry with my brother and hold a grudge against him what do I do with Eph 4:32? (And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.) If I have no control over my thought life what do I do with Matt 5:28? (But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.) If I watch a TV show that blasphemes God, that stirs up lust what do I do with Psalm 101:3? (I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.) Who do we honor with our lives?
