Daily Devotions

Ps 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

God doesn’t restore the Christian, the wondering sheep, to let them alone. After restoration come leading. (Verse 3) Hard to imagine the shepherd going out to find that one wondering sheep, bringing it back, and then letting it alone to wonder again. Our good shepherd not only restores, but leads as well. Look for the hand of God to guide you, to lead you into His righteousness and be willing to follow. How will our good shepherd do this in our lives? First, through the reading of His Word and prayer. I have found that when one of these is lacking in a person’s life, both are. Do you read your Bible each day? Through His Word God wants to lead you and as we are given to His Word we will be given more to prayer. Then there is the church house and the preaching of the Word of God. I have also found that when Bible reading and prayer are lacking attendance at church does little good. It is hard for God to speak to you in an hour when you ignore Him all week. But when one is given to the Bible and prayer daily God is able to speak through the preaching of the Word of God. Put these three together and you will find the Lord, the good shepherd, leading you is paths of righteousness.
