1 Sam 3:1-4 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision. 2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see; 3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep; 4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

How close are we to the lamp of God being put out in our nation? In Israel in the days of Samuel it was to that point. (Verse 3) The priesthood was corrupt, the days of the judges was coming to a close, no prophet could be heard, the lamp of God was about to go out. Praise God Samuel answered the call of God. I wonder how close are we in America to the lamp of God going out? I was reading last evening in our local paper that Bradley Manning, the one who sold our military and security secrets now wants to be called Chelsea Manning and wants to be provided with estrogen treatments while in prison at Fort Leavenworth that would make his features turn into that of a woman. He says he wants the prison and the military to “Do the right thing”. I would like to see both do the right thing as well according to the Bible, God’s Word. It is amazing today how often evil is called good. The only hope for America today is for the Christian to raise up Godly children, to ready them to stand for and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. Samuel here was a young lad, yet he was ready to answer the call of God, ready to serve. One of the most amazing verses of the Bible is found in 1 Samuel 1:28 where the Bible tells us that Samuel worshipped the Lord. There he is between 5 and 8 years of age and God already had his heart. What has the heart of our young people today? The TV, the DVD, the video games and so forth. We need pray that their parents give them to the Lord, that their parents train them, bring them to Jesus. The lamp of God is about to go out in America, we need some who would keep it lit.
