Jer 33:1-7 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying, 2 Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name; 3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. 4 For thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword;
5 They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but it is to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in mine anger and in my fury, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city. 6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth. 7 And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.

Jeremiah 33:3 is an oft quoted verse but many times the context in which it is found is forgotten. Jeremiah was shut up in prison and was in prayer. But take note his prayer must not have been for himself, he must have been praying for the people and the nation. God’s promise in the next few verses is not to deliver Jeremiah but the nation from captivity. The heart of Jeremiah was with the people and not self. We begin the last two days of our camp this week and we are in need of prayer. Things are going very well, the campers are getting along and mixing well, the staff also. All are having a good time and yet there is something about this group, something that has hold upon them that needs to be prayed away. Some have raised their hands for salvation, yet have not stepped out. I pray God take rest and joy from them until they get saved. Pray for them today as I will, pray for the others as I will, asking God to break the bonds that hold them in sin. It must be a terrible thing to know what one needs and yet not want it bad enough to reach out and receive it. Pray that Satan be defeated today and souls would be saved, that many would be set free from the prison they are in.
