July 30th, 2013 by Pastor SolleyActs 9:1-6 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
Here was Saul, kicking and fighting against the only one who could help him in his life, kicking and fighting against the pricks. The harder he kicked the more he hurt himself. Throw this one in prison and it hurt more, throw that on prison and it hurt more, threaten this one and it hurt more. The more Saul worked against the Lord the more it hurt. Then Saul met Jesus Christ. (Verse 4) This was not the first meeting and not a meeting by accident. God had been working on Saul, the Spirit of God had been convicting Saul, and not Jesus spoke to Saul. What to do? This man who had caused so many others to tremble, now stood trembling himself before the Lord. This is as we know the turning point in the life of Saul, he no longer would fight against the Lord, no longer kick against the pricks, life was about to change for Saul. It didn’t mean a life of ease for him from this point on, but it did mean a life of peace. The fight with God was over and from now on he would walk in the peace and joy of the Lord. There would still be battles and fights, but no longer with God. Who are you fighting against today?
