Luke 13:1-5 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

When most people think of repentance they think of repenting of some evil or great sin such as drunkenness, murder, fornication and the like. But the Bible says “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish”. Even good people must repent. Consider what Jesus said to the rich young ruler. (Matt 19:16-21 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.) This man was certainly living a good life, a life free of any glairing sin, yet he was falling short of heaven. What was the problem? He was trusting in self and not the savior, he had never really looked at himself as a sinner before God in need of salvation and repentance. As one continues to read of this man he never did turn to Christ, never did turn away from good works, never did turn away from self, never repented. As a result he never found Christ and the wrath of God was and is upon him still. Repentance is not for the worst of men, it is for all men.
