Acts 9:19-22 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. 20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. 21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? 22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.

We have been looking all week at the source of Paul’s strength in the Lord. First, Paul was submissive to God. (Acts 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.) Second, Paul was obedient to God. (Acts 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.) Third, Paul was active in service to God. (Acts 9:20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.)
This morning we see as well that Paul was humble before God. Paul never forgot who he was without Jesus Christ and who gave him the strength and power to serve. (2 Cor 12:9-10 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.) Paul was a spiritual giant among men but he never forgot who gave him the strength to serve and Paul knew that to try and do anything in and of himself, to try and do anything in the flesh would be a disaster. Paul knew that he was weak, that alone he could not stand, that alone he could not serve, that his strength was in and from the Lord Jesus Christ. That is why we often fail in our Christian walk and service, we forget that without Him we are nothing. Paul never forgot who he was without Jesus Christ and what he would be if he tried to do anything on his own.
