Acts 9:19-22 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. 20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. 21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? 22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.

Paul, or Saul, increased in strength, in spiritual strength in the Lord. One reason is that he was submissive to God. (Acts 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.) Paul then was obedient, Paul did as God directed. (Acts 9:8-9 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. 9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.) Most having been stricken blind would have gone back home, would have gone to a doctor, but Paul did neither of those things. Paul did as he said he would, he obeyed God and waited on the Lord for three day in total darkness, Paul was obedient to God. So many Christians today will tell you what they are going to do, will go to the altar under conviction and tell God what they intend to do with His help and grace. In the very next moment they go back to what they always did, go back to living for self, for the world, they never had any intention of doing what they said they would do. Is it any wonder we have so many worldly and weak Christians today? We will be knocking on doors this evening, sharing the gospel, inviting people out to church. I am sure that there will be a few tell me they will visit our church. A long time ago I quit getting excited about promises made on the doorstep because so very few of them are kept. It is good to be submissive as Paul was but it equally important to obey, perhaps even more important. What good is a promise not kept?
