The gospel begins with a person, the Lord Jesus Christ. It then continue with what Jesus Christ did, He died for our sins. (Verse 3) A person cannot believe the gospel, cannot be saved until they are lost. Ask many people what they are depending upon to get them to heaven and they will tell you many different things, but very few will tell you that they were lost in sin, repented, and Jesus saved them. Until a person realizes that they are a sinner apart from God the gospel is of no effect. One thing people do not want to acknowledge today is sin. Even those who will admit that they are sinners do not think themselves bad enough to deserve hell. “I am not that bad” they will say, or “I haven’t murdered anybody”. What many do not realize is that a righteous and holy God cannot and will not tolerate any sin, even ones we call “Little sins”. Repentance is a part of salvation no matter what the numbers people tell you. They have softened their gospel and replaced repentance with belief, just believe and God will save you. My friend Satan believes in God, believes in Jesus Christ, believes in heaven and wants to be there, but his eternal home is the Lake of Fire, it takes more than believing, it takes repentance and faith to be saved. Until a person acknowledges sin, that they are a sinner apart from God, they will not repent and if they don’t repent they cannot be saved. Christ died for sinners, do you know He died for you?
