Today is Flag Day, a forgotten day it seems in our nation. On June 14, 1777 the second Continental Congress adopted the flag of our nation and it is something that we should stop and remember. The flag of the United States of America means something, stands for something and should be respected. How sad it is for our nation that few remember what our flag means and how many gave their lives for it over the years. As we see in our verse this morning there was as well a standard, a flag set over the tents of the Israelites as they made their way to the Promised Land. Everyone knew his standard, his flag, knew for whom and what it stood. So should be our Christian heritage today, we should know our standard, our flag, and stand for it. How is it today that so many Christians can blend right into the world, never be noticed as being different, and make so little difference today? It is because so few will stand up for, stand beside their standard. That should never be true of an American, we should stand for and beside our flag. So much more so for the Christian, Christ is our standard, our flag and we need to stand for Him and with Him.
