2 Tim 1:1-7 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, 2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day; 4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; 5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

One of the gifts of God to His children is a soundness of mind. (Verse 7) That is something that is needed today. Scandals in government, an economy that is unsteady at best, wars abounding, natural disasters on the rise, fires, drought, all going on at the same time. Many become consumed with worry to the point that they have no soundness of mind. How can we have what God would give us in a sound mind. It begins with faith, saving faith. (Verse 5) Timothy was a saved man, truly saved, he did not profess Christ, he knew Christ. I wonder today how many who profess Jesus Christ really know Jesus Christ? Too many have said a prayer but have never repented of sin. You can’t be saved unless you know you are lost, you can’t call out for someone to save you unless you know you are in grave danger. Too many have said a prayer without repentance, without first being lost in sin. Timothy had a true faith and true faith in salvation will lead to faith for living, faith for trusting fully in Christ. You can’t have a sound mind without saving faith. Timothy was also serving the Lord. (Verse 6) He was using his spiritual gifts in service for the Lord. This gave him something to do that was worthwhile and that is lacking in the lives of Christians today as well. People get so busy with the world that they have no time for Jesus, no time to serve. A worldly mind is not a spiritual mind and thus cannot be a sound mind. A mind settled though on Christ and serving Him will be a sound mind.
