April 2nd, 2013 by Pastor SolleyAmos 3:1-3 Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, 2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. 3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
The reason for the judgment that was coming on the nation of Israel was that they no longer agreed with God and because they did not agree with God they no longer walked with God. Going all the way back to the time when God brought Israel out of Egypt this was a problem. When things suited the people they delighted to walk with God but when things did not suit them they would walk their own way. Time and time again the people looked back to Egypt and would return to that bondage. When they had little water they would have turned back, when they had little food they would have turned back, when other nations stood in the way they would have turned back. Each time God provided giving them water, food, and protection as well as victory over their enemies and still all along the way they would turn back. In the time of Amos the patience of God had now run out, the people would not agree with God, would not walk with God, and now a judgment was coming. The same things we see today in nations, in our nation, but in people as well. What can we expect God to do if we will not agree with Him, will not walk with Him? We know judgment is coming for America, but what of us as individuals? We can expect the chastening hand of God in our lives when we do not agree, do not walk with God. How can tow walk together except they be agreed?
