March 26th, 2013 by Pastor SolleyMatt 27:62-66 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, 63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. 64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. 65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. 66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
The enemies of Jesus must have been elated when He gave His life a sacrifice for sin on the cross for they had thought he was gone from them forever. Then they remembered something, Jesus had said He would rise again. Had they not known all the things that He did, all the miracles, had they not known of Lazarus this would not have bothered them, but they did know. So they went to Pilate, who had his own reasons for wanting Jesus to stay in the grave, and they set a watch over the tomb after sealing it, they made it as sure as they could. Have you ever taken note of how people make a false religion, a false gospel, a false way of salvation as sure as they can today? Books are written by men with great minds, false systems of belief are developed and presented as true, and many follow the evil workings of Satan through those men. They have everything to back them up, the praise of men, books they have written, a large following, everything except one thing, the Bible. They ignore the simple truth of the Word of God just as the leaders of Israel did, they make things as sure as they can. Yet in the end one tings stands true, the Bible, the Word of God. Jesus did rise from the grave, He is alive today, and nothing done by the false teachers of the day could keep Him in that tomb. Just as the truth, God’s truth will stand forever, just as His truth stands today. If you want truth, if you want to meet the Savior of the world, go to the book that He has given.
