Ps 55:1-8 Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication. 2 Attend unto me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise; 3 Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me. 4 My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me. 5 Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me. 6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest. 7 Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah. 8 I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

Is Psalm 55 David is in a storm of life. (Verse 8) The enemies of David have risen up against him, they are oppressing him, accusing him, they hate him. (Verses 3-4) This is affecting David to the point that his heart is pained within him, the pressure from the enemy has taken him to the point of death, he is afraid and overwhelmed. David wishes for the wings of a dove that he might escape and wonder into the wilderness to be alone. What can we do in times such as these? We can do what David did, we can pray, we can flee to our God, flee to the only one who truly understands and the only one who can help. So often when we are in circumstances like David found himself in we try everything else first, we turn to this one or that one, we do everything but the very thing we need to do first, we need to turn to our God in prayer. David lifted his voice up to God and that is what we need to do. There is one who can calm the storms of life and we need to turn to Him while the winds blow and the waves rise. Never give up, pray. – Ps 55:17 Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
