8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The big news in the religious world the past few days has been the election of a new Pope for the Roman Catholic Church. I watched some of the proceedings, thousands making a pilgrimage to Rome, waiting for an announcement, after it came people weeping with joy. As the former Pope stepped down other leaders of that church knelt before him and kissed his ring. Now they will give that honor to another man, yes a man just like your or me. Above are the verses that I thought of as I watched those things. Man has replaced the Son of God, the King of all kings, the LORD of Lords, with one of their own choosing, one of their own making. How great it is to stand before Jesus today, to worship Him, to bow before Him, to praise and adore Him and Him alone. How sad it must be to have to give those things to one who does not deserve them when we can give them to Jesus.
