11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray , as John also taught his disciples.
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.Prayer, how big a part or how small a part of your life is prayer? The disciples came to Jesus asking Him to teach them to pray. Jeus of course gave them the model prayer as we see in the Scripture reading. But Jesus also taught them how to pray. Jeus life was an example in prayer.
Luke 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
As the Lord leads I want to look at prayer this week and how God teaches us to pray.
Great things have been done through the power of prayer. Elijah prayed and it did not rain for three years. James 5:17-18 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Yet the Bible tells us that he was a man subject to like passions as we are. Elijah was no different than you or me. How then was he so powerful in prayer and we are so weak it seems? Elijah was a man taught to pray by God. And we can be a people taught to pray by God.
Today consider Jesus Christ in prayer, all night in prayer. Then ask yourself how much time to you spend in prayer. Are you one that needs taught how to pray?
