March 8th, 2013 by Pastor SolleyJohn 11:1-5 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.) 3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. 4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. 5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
Mary, Martha, and Lazarus found themselves in desperate need, Lazarus was sick and ready to die. They turned to the one they knew could help, to the Lord Jesus Christ, they did what almost all people do today where there is no where else to turn. But there is a notable difference between those three and people today. Notice that they turned to one they already had a relationship with, they loved Jesus and Jesus loved them. So many times as I talk to people today with troubles the first thing they do is blame God. They get angry with God for allowing this or that to happen, for not fixing this or that, and they become bitter against God. Yet most times these same ones have never had time for God in their lives, have been indifferent to God and the things of God, yet they expect God to step right in and solve all their problems. Worse yet is that they will once again ignore God and go their own way after the problem has passed. Mary and Martha did what so many do today, but they had a relationship with Jesus. Because of that they experienced a great miracle in their lives, the raising from the dead of their brother. Jesus can meet every need, but the first need is to have a relationship with him.
