Acts 2:38-47 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

There is much to say about the New Testament church and its beginning. One thing Peter under inspiration of the Holy Spirit called for was for his countrymen to save themselves from this “Untoward generation”. (Verse 40) For those who would believe and receive Jesus Christ the church would become a life saving station. Israel was once again headed for a very hard fall. They had rejected their Messiah, turning Him over to Rome and then asking that His “blood be upon us and our children”, and God was going to give them what they asked for. The only hope of the Jew then was same hope lost man has today, Jesus Christ. The nation was still going to go through more chastening of the Lord, Rome would destroy the temple and Jerusalem with it, heartache was coming, but there was the offer of personal salvation, the church would be a life saving station. Now let us move into our current day and the troubles we see all around us in America. A nation in love with sin of any type, a nation shaking its fist at God, denying God, removing God from every corner of society. A nation that has become so lazy that even those who can work will not work, looking for others to support them and on the brink of financial ruin. We live in a nation that is going to fall, just as Israel did more than one time. What is our hope? The church can still be that life saving station. The church that sticks to the true Word of God, the King James Bible, the church that preaches Bible salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the church that stands against sin and for the righteousness of God, that church can still be a life saving station. Sad to say that in our day most people are just like the Jews of Jesus’ day, they don’t want what God has to offer.
