1 Tim 3:15-16 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. 16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

The church is of the Living God and is a pillar as we have found out over the past two days. Notice now this morning that it is also the ground of truth. I want to focus this morning on that word ground. When I was growing up there were times when my parents grounded me. There were times when I disobeyed the rules of the house or went against their wishes. They were not times that I welcomed then but as I think back about what it was to be grounded by them it was not such a bad thing. To be grounded put me in a safe place, put me in a structured place, put me in a place where there were absolutes, put me in the company of those who loved and cared for me. Looking back being grounded was not such a bad thing, in fact, it was a very good thing. We find the same positive things when we are grounded in a good Bible believing church. Our church home can be all the things our earthly home was if we allow it to be.
