December 17th, 2012 by Pastor Solley2 Tim 4:5-8 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Are you ready for Christmas? That is a question that one hears often this time of year. Are you ready for Christmas? Those who are answer calmly that they have finished their shopping early, have dinner plans made, and are anticipating the day. Thos who are not know that they will be hurriedly rushing around in the days ahead, trying to get things done, and know they will forget something. Are you ready for Christmas?
A more important question would be, are you ready for eternity? We know when Christmas will be, December 25th, but we do not know when we will step into eternity. Yet many people face that day in the same way that they face Christmas. They are not ready, they know something needs to be done, they know the day is approaching, but they are not ready, they know that what must be done is yet undone still. In our Scripture reading this morning we find that Paul was ready to be offered, Paul was ready for his departure from this life, Paul was ready to step into eternity. Are you my friend? Paul was ready for several reasons, first and foremost was the fact that Paul was born again, saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. Paul had called out to Jesus for forgiveness of sin and salvation, Paul had repented and turned to Jesus Christ. That is the first step in being ready for eternity. One must realize that they are a sinner from birth, in need of salvation, know that Jesus who is the Son of Go died for them on the cross, repent, and call upon the name of the Lord. Sound complicated but it is not. Are you saved today or do you know there is something missing? Are you ready for eternity? Throughout this week we will address that question, are you ready?
