December 11th, 2012 by Pastor Solley2 Cor 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
Why is God’s gift, the Lord Jesus Christ, so unspeakable? Consider this morning the world that God loved and loves, the world that Jesus loved and loves.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
This was, is, and will continue to be a world that hates God, hates all that is about God, and hates His Son, Jesus Christ. The world then rejected Him, spit upon Him, cursed His name, and in an effort to rid itself of Jesus hung Him on a cross. Not much has changed today except to say things have grown worse. Think of the way that Jesus is treated today, the way the name of Jesus Christ is treated today. Mocked and scorned, the name of Jesus is little more than a curse word to most people. No longer is it politically correct to say Merry Christmas, manger scenes no longer permitted in public places, “X mas” parties instead of Christmas parties and so on. The world today is doing the very same thing the world did then with Jesus. And yet this truth still holds true. – John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Can you find words that explain that today? No one could at the first advent of Jesus, it was unspeakable, it remains unspeakable today. – 2 Cor 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
