Matt 1:18-21 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

This time of year people are always looking to “Save” something, usually money. Stores were packed on Black Friday with people looking to save, stores have items on sale so people can save, adds are placed in the papers so people can “Clip and save”. This time of year with all the buying that goers on, people are always looking to save.
The words save, saving, and saved are common one is the Bible appearing in almost 350 verses, so I would like to look this morning and for a few days at the topic of saving or being saved. In our test passage for this morning we find that Jesus came to save. (Verse 21) But save what? Jesus didn’t come to save money or time, Jesus came to save souls, Jesus came to save people in need of saving, Jesus came to save His people from sin. The phrase “His people” causes problems for some, but lets begin with who needs to be saved before we move on to who can be saved.
Jesus answers the question of who needs to be saved in Matthew 18:11 “For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.” The lost in this verse points to those lost in sin and in danger of death and hell. That includes every man, women, and child who has been born into this world or will be born into this world. We are all born with a sin nature.
Rom 3:23 tells us “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” That world “All” means exactly that. Jesus came to save those in need of saving and that includes you and me. When you are looking to save this Christmas season take a moment and look to the one who came into the world to save you.
