Jn 1:1 IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

Christmas season is now in full swing, started officially the day after Thanksgiving with what is now called “Black Friday”. I find it amusing that Christmas, the celebration of the giving of the Son of God to a lost and dying world, begins with “Black Friday”. I find it amusing but fitting as well. How many who celebrate Christmas after the manner of this world walk in the blackness of sin needing the light of Christ, but remain in that darkness?
People stood in lines hundreds of yards long for hours on end to get that good deal on Black Friday. Yet those same ones will not enter the warm comfort of the church house to hear the preaching of the Word of God, to hear of the light of the world, to find that one deal in life that they cannot pass up without eternal consequences. Christmas seas has began but let us make it a celebration of light and not darkness.
