November 8th, 2012 by Pastor SolleyJonah 3:1-3 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying, 2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. 3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
Jonah 4:1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
We looked yesterday at Jonah remembering the Lord. (Jonah 2:7) Jonah did remember, did cry out to the Lord, was delivered from the fish, and then went to Nineveh to fulfill the Lord’s commission. But take note of the attitude of Jonah in chapter 4. This man was still so full of himself that he refused to submit to the will of God. Yes he went, yes he preached, but no he did not submit to the will of God and his attitude shows that. Jonah was “Displeased” with God for allowing the people of Nineveh to repent and turn to Him. The question then becomes one of complete submission to the will of God, body, soul and spirit, or just an outward obedience without a real heart for God. Actions without the heart do little for the child of God and I wonder how many Christians go through this world with the same attitude of Jonah? Are you willing to submit to the will of God?
