2 Tim 2:15-16 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Why so many “Vain babblings” today? Why so many departures from the faith? Because so many Christians are given to anything but the Word of God. In our text we find that we are to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God”. The Bible, God’s Word is there for us to study, is there to be a light unto our path and lamp unto our feet. Yet many today spend more time reading the writings of men rather than the Word of God. We can learn much from Spirit filled and guided men but we can learn more from the simple reading of the Bible. It is the Bible and the Bible alone that is “Inspired”, God breathed, given by the Holy Spirit to be our guide and light, our standard of truth and right. When people give more weight to the writings of men than they do to the Word of God we can be sure that more and more vain babblings will abound.
